አዎ ንዋያዊ ድህነትና ከዚያ ጋር ተያይዘው የሚመጡ ችግሮች በሰው ልጅ ታሪክ ውስጥ የነበሩ ያሉና ወደፊትም የሚኖሩ ናቸው። እኛ ኢትዮጵያዊያን በሃብትና በቴክኖሎጂ ከዳበሩ ሃገሮች ጋር ስንወዳደር ብዙም ሚዛን የሚደፋ ደረጃ ላይ አይደለንም። እንደ አገርና እንደ ህዝብም በውጫዊና በውስጣዊ ምክንያቶች በርካታ ፈተናዎችና መሰናክሎች ተቋቁመን አልፈናል።አንድም ጊዜ ግን በዚህ ደረጃ ብሄራዊ ውርደት ደርሶብን አያውቅም። የህወሃት/ኢህአዴግ ግፈኛ አስተዳደር በውጭ ወራሪ ከሚደርስ ግፍ በመረረና በከፋ ሁኔታ አገራችንን ህዝቡንም እያዋረደና እያሰቃየ መግዛቱን ቀጥሎበታል። ይህ በተለምዶ ቆሼ እየተባለ በሚጠራው አካባቢም የደረሰው ሰቆቃም የዚህ ስርአት አመታት ያስቆጠረ ጭቆናና ምዝበራ ውጤት ነው።

Famine is back in Ethiopia. Famine and Ethiopia have become so interchangeable western comedians don’t feel shame making famine jokes using us as a punch line. How is our first 21st Century famine being welcomed in our precious homeland? I am afraid our response has not changed. Denial, surprise, blame and righteous indignation have been brought out of the closet. The response by the Emperor, the Junta and the ethnically challenged mafia group are typical Ethiopian. ‘Shit happens but this time around it is not as bad as before so give us credit please!’
Ethiopians as whole are not talking about the famine yet. A few thousands dying is not something that worries an Ethiopian. Death due to hunger, death from curable disease, death due to internal displacement (Get out of my kilil philosophy), death on the way to South Africa, death from being set on fire in South Africa, death in Yemen, death in the Sinai, death in Libya, death by hanging in Beirut, Abu Dhabi, death for ‘security reason’ at home – death has lost its meaning in Ethiopia. That is exactly why we have developed this habit of assigning a very low value on the life of a human being. That is the reason the government is debating the number of people starving as if thousands is understandable whereas if one mentions millions it is considered a ‘terrorist act’. Our release was as surprising as our detention. Five of us were released as the charges were ‘withdrawn’ in July. While four of us were released because we were acquitted (save the appeal against our acquittal). Still one of our member, Befeqadu, was released on bail and he is yet to defend himself later this year in December. Even though we were released in different circumstances; one thing makes all of us similar – our strong belief that we didn’t deserve even a single day of arrest. Yes, it is good to be released, but we were arrested undeservedly. All we did was writing and striving for the rule of law because we want to see the improvement of our country and the lives of its citizens. However, writing and dreaming for the better of our nation got us detained, harassed, tortured and exiled. Undeservedly.

Just a few months ago, Bekele Gerba was languishing in a high security Ethiopian jail, hearing the cries of fellow prisoners being beaten and tortured. Now, the 54-year-old foreign language professor is in Washington, D.C., for meetings at the State Department. His message: The Obama administration should pay more attention to the heavy-handed way its ally, Ethiopia, treats political opponents — and should help Ethiopians who are losing their ability to earn a living.

Gerba is a leader of the Oromo Federalist Congress, a political party that represents one of the country’s largest ethnic groups. With estimated numbers of about 30 million, the Oromo make up about a third of Ethiopia’s population.

Something was awry at a hearing of the High Court of Ethiopia on July 6, 2015. As the much anticipated conviction of Muslim civil society leaders (Abubaker Ahmed and 17 others) was underway, it was clear that this was no ordinary trial.

Security was beefed up, the public gallery was crowded and the atmosphere was tense. A significant amount of time was spent with the court presenting a detailed defense of the government’s policies on counterterrorism and Muslim-state relations. The court also defended the state’s imposition of the Ahbash sect and, in an odd twist, compared the Ahbash sect to Zoroastrianism in Iran. Given how much time was spent on defending the government’s positions, the morning session made it feel as if the Ethiopian state was on trial and not the other way around.

The defendants, who spanned the ideological-denominational spectrum within Islam, were six members of the Ethiopian Muslims Arbitration Committee, 8 prominent Muslim scholars, two journalists, an artist and a student who were exemplary members of society.

In December of 2011, this group started as a pressure group, and later a protest movement, to convince the government to terminate its “Ahbashization” project in which the government tried to force the Ahbash sect of Lebanon as the official religion of Ethiopian Muslims. In the weeks and months that followed talks between the Arbitration Committee and the government broke down and the latter took control over Islamic schools and Mosques and started appointing its agents as Imams and teachers. አምባገነኑ የሰሜን ኮሪያው ኪም ጆንገን እንኳ እ.ኤ.አ መጋቢት 2014 ተካሄደ በተባለው ፓርላሜንታዊ ምርጫ መቶ በመቶ በማሸነፍ የምርጫ ድልን ተቀዳጅቻለሁ ለማለት አልደፈረም ነበር፡፡
ቢያንስ በወረቀት ላይ የኪም ጆንገን “የሰሜን ኮሪያው የሰራተኞች ፓርቲ” 88.3 በመቶ (ከ687 መቀመጫዎች ውስጥ 607 መቀመጫዎችን በመያዝ) ብቻ ማሸነፉን ገልጾ ነበር፡፡
“የኮሪያ ሶሻሊስት ዴሞክራቲክ ፓርቲ” 50 መቀመጫዎችን አሸንፎ ነበር፡፡ እንደዚሁም ደግሞ “የቾንዶይስት ቾንጉ ፓርቲ” 22 መቀመጫዎችን አሸንፎ ነበር፡፡ በጃፓን የሚኖሩ ጠቅላላ ኮሪያውያን ማህበር/General Association of Korean Residents in Japan ደግሞ 5 መቀመጫዎችን አሸንፎ ነበር፡፡ በሌላ በኩልም የኃይማኖት ማህበር/Religious Associations የተባለው ፓርቲ 3 መቀመጫዎችን አሸንፎ ነበር፡፡
በኢትዮጵያ ውስጥ “በምርጫ በንቃት የሚሳተፉ” 79 የተመዘገቡ እና ሕጋዊ ህልውና ያላቸው የፖለቲካ ፓርቲዎች አሉ አየተባለ ይለፈፋል፡፡

To see three Woyane comedians dissect President Obama recent visit to Ethiopia is like watching the rerun of the three stooges—you never know what you going to get.

Comedy is a funny business. It is only good to make us forget the real world laugh about it. Comedians are unique people too in that; you don’t take them seriously when they make a jock out of you.
Some people are not cut out for comedy. They have no sense of humor and take comedians seriously to get mad. But, when comedians take themselves seriously, it is whole other different ball game.

Take the American comedians in the mid–20th century known as the Three Stooges and best recognized for their numerous Columbia short subject films. The Three Stooges were commonly identified by their first names: “Moe, Larry, and Curly”. They were notorious to suspend what little narrative structure their pictures possessed in order to insert a number of gratuitous jokes. But, they were successful for long time because they were unconventionally funny.
Woyane comedians are the same– hilarious not for their jocks but clowning to be serious journalist, politicians, academician, businessmen …. Imagine the three stooges turn into a journalists, politicians or academician… analyzing world politics, economy and social science. They probably still make us laugh more than what they do as a real comedians but no one will take them seriously.
That is why our version of –Curley, Larry, Moe, — Dawit, Selam and Zerihun were hilarious on the EBC Media Dassesa program posted on Awramba Times and many other stooges’ online Media.

Selam (Larry) is the clueless stooge that goes for ‘whatever can save Woyane goes’. The Program — Media Dassesa itself is funny. It sounds more a contest between the stooges Medias who best can save the Al-Qaida in Abyssinia regime.

Ethiopia Opposition Candidate Dies After Attack in Northwest

(Bloomberg) – An Ethiopian parliamentary candidate for the opposition Blue Party died after being assaulted in Debre Markos, a town in the country’s northwest, the group said.

Two people attacked Samuel Awoke, 29, with a club and knife as he returned home alone from a night out with friends, spokesman Yonatan Tesfaye said by phone Tuesday from the capital, Addis Ababa.

“We are trying to figure out who are the killers and the reasons,” he said, citing suspicions it was politically motivated. Ethiopian Communications Minister Redwan Hussien said in a text message that a suspect has been apprehended and the attack may have stemmed from a legal dispute.

Samuel reported previous death threats and a beating during campaigning for the polls that were held May 24, Yonatan said. The lawyer had been active in challenging election procedures and results in the Amhara region town, 295 kilometers (183 miles) northwest of the capital, he said.

No one is surprised with the sweeping victory of the incumbent regime, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF), over the stifled opposition. Over the last five years, the EPRDF, which is mainly controlled by one ethnic group making up 6% of the population, the Tigrayan Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF), has focused enormous efforts on closing all political space to any contenders. This highly unpopular regime has somehow managed to improve upon the results of 2010 when they received a mere 99.6% of the vote. What is surprising is their apparent lack of shame and embarrassment when everyone knows the results are blatantly false.

Thanks to new technology, pictures of some of the obvious manipulations by election officials are already being posted on the Internet. For example, election results are hand-recorded on official documents. These documents carry the logo of the election board and are signed and dated by election officials; yet, one can see that the numbers have been repeatedly crossed out and changed to the advantage of the EPRDF candidates only. This resulted in some candidates being listed multiple times with various different numbers of votes. A specific example is of a Blue Party candidate who was winning by nearly 800 votes over the EPRDF candidate. The Blue Party candidate’s votes were crossed out and the lead disappeared. Conversely, the EPRDF candidate’s lower numbers were crossed out and replaced with much higher numbers, but the continuing manipulation of the number of votes could easily be seen and occurred multiple times in some cases. No one knows why votes suddenly disappeared for non-EPRDF candidates while large numbers were added to the regime’s candidates. The election board did not even make an effort to hide what they were doing, not anticipating that the documents would be leaked. Ethiopia Travel Alert

Washington D.C. – The State Department alerts U.S. citizens residing in or traveling to Ethiopia of the upcoming elections scheduled for May 24, 2015. U.S. citizens are urged to exercise caution and remain abreast of the security situation throughout the electoral period. This Travel Alert expires on June 30, 2015.

The State Department recommends U.S. citizens maintain a high level of security awareness during the electoral period and avoid political rallies, polling centers, demonstrations, and crowds of any kind as instances of unrest can occur. Review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. Although there have been no specific incidents of violence targeting U.S. citizens, U.S. citizens are urged to exercise caution and stay current with media coverage of local events. Election results are scheduled to be announced June 22, 2015.

During previous elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) required all diplomats and international organization staff living in Addis Ababa to receive an official pass from the MFA if they planned to travel outside of Addis Ababa during the election season. While not in effect this election, the U.S. Embassy continues to urge U.S. citizens to be aware of election sensitivities. We especially recommend avoiding public polling stations on the day of the election, including schools and other public buildings. In Addis Ababa alone there will be nearly 1,600 polling stations – roughly one polling station for every kilometer.

We strongly recommend that U.S. citizens traveling to or residing in Ethiopia enroll in the Department of State’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program(STEP) at travel.state.gov. STEP enrollment gives you the latest security updates, and makes it easier for the U.S. Embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate to contact you in an emergency. If you do not have Internet access, contact the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate to enroll directly.
